Within the last ten years the UK security industry gone through a major over haul of it’s business practises with the implementation of the UK Government’s regulation and guidelines on private security companies, BSI was one of the first to comply with the regulations and implement strategies according to the guidelines, this was achieved when the first white paper was drafted up by Government. Instead of waiting to be forced into complying with the regulation we opted to do it at the outset.
In short that the prospective employee will need to provide a ten year checkable work history which is provided via an application form, a statement from the Police force saying the prospective employee has no criminal record, they also sign a document giving BSI permission to access their private records be it military or police. This is where most companies stop, however BSI does a thorough background check. Including a check with the Criminal Intelligence Service’s and Interpol.

Many beginners believe that showing a Certificate from some school is all that is required and high paying assignments are waiting. This results in many individuals searching for some school to take their money. As a result there are numerous schools in the profession without any type of qualification or credibility. Many of the schools offer courses that take a very short time to complete, and usually have a curriculum that stresses weapons training. (Even if you take a course like this, and later want to qualify for a Concealed Weapons Permit in your state, you’ll be required to attend State approved training to obtain the license). Attending a school for a week does not provide enough training to qualify for professionalism. There are “schools” all over the world that sell bodyguard training; usually the training lasts for only a few days and is devoted to martial arts or weapons use. The principal function of these schools is the collection of the expensive tuition. So think.
When a VIP asks: “What qualifications do you have to protect me?” do you believe a Certificate from a school will impress him?
We do not intend to downgrade some of the really fine schools. They are worth their enrollment fee, as long as their students realize it is not the school’s responsibility to find employment for their graduates.
